Description:
The first edition of this book has been
praised by professionals in the field. (See "Reviews" above). It was
published in 1998 to update the then current
shielding methods which were based on
reports published more than 20 years earlier
by the National Council on Radiation
Protection and Measurement (NCRP). The
first edition of Shielding Techniques
addressed the many changes that have
occurred-both in radiation sources and the
techniques used for radiation therapy-which
in turn have introduced design problems not
addressed in the NCRP reports.
This second edition updates the information
still further by addressing issues posed by
gamma knife rooms, CT simulator rooms,
and side scatter. New homework problems
and example calculations have been added
along with new figures, tables, and
references. This is a valuable reference,
both for experienced and first-time shielding
designers. It can also be used as a text for
senior or graduate level medical physics and
health physics courses.
